My newest work is a song cycle that imagines the experience of my Grandfather, Vlad Ratay, as he immigrated to the United States in 1922 at the age of 19. Aleš Navrátil crafted the lyrics for the songs based on my grandfather's letters home.
The song cycle will have it's World Premiere on September 8, 2024 in Albuquerque, NM as part of the University of New Mexico Faculty Spotlight Series. Michael Hix, baritone, Kristin Ditlow, piano, and Valerie Potter, flute, will be performing. Additionally, the piece will be featured as the opening event for the 2024 Czech and Slovak Echoes in the USA festival in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with Michael Hix, baritone, Ahmad Hedar, piano, and Beth Ratay, flute.
